1028 - UNTOUCHED AND OUT-OF-THE-WOODS COLT, MODEL 1860 MARTIALLY MARKED REVOLVER WITH HOLSTER.
This is a very good Army revolver in heavy brown patina. It exibits a generally smooth, deep brown color with a very good cylinder scene and excellent grips with near perfect cartouches. It has not been heavily used, but has suffered from poor storage in that it has a few small areas of pitting on the barrel. They do not detract much from the overall look of the gun, and I've seen much lessor guns priced as high as this one WITHOUT the benefit of a fine holster. This holster is of very fine quality and is in fine condition. It appears to be of post Civil War construction and the pair look great together.

1002 - VERY FINE - EXCELLENT COLT MARTIALLY MARKED 1860 ARMY 4-SCREW.
This Army is in very fine condition, retaining about 80 - 85% original blue on the barrel, much of which is thinning. The cylinder, with near perfect scene, shows about 60% thin blue with most of it on the re-bate. All six pins are standing. The frame, lever and hammer show 95% brilliant case colors, with the frame being possibly the best I have ever seen with near perfect screws. The grips show little wear with a fine "PB" cartouche on the left side only which is proper for this serial range, (25XXX). The gun shows normal nicks and dings but little use. This is one of the best Armys I have seen in some time, and they are getting harder and harder to find with 50% or more finish. I recommend that anyone looking for a good one, get one now before they are completely dried up.

fr1 - CASED, INSCRIBED AND IDENTIFIED METROPOLITAN NAVY REVOLVER OF CONFEDERATE GENERAL DANIEL MARSH FROST.
Formerly in the prominant collection of James U. Blanchard III, co-founder of the Blanchard Group of Funds and Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street Newsletter. Much of Blanchard's collection of important American Arms, documents and photographs remain in a private foundation, however several key items were sold in 1991 including several letters from Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee and other notables, as well as a select few important firearms. The Daniel M. Frost Navy is one of the latter. Frost was a graduate of West Point, having graduated 4th in his class of 1844 which included U.S. Grant, George McClellan, P.G.T. Beauragard and other Civil War notables. He served in the Mexican War in battles at Cerro Gordo, Churubusco, Vera Cruz, Chapultepec and was breveted for gallantry. He also served in the U.S. Mounted Rifles and was wounded by Indians. He served in the Missouri State Senate, and was Brigadier General in the Missouri State Guard in which his rank and service are denoted on the backstrap of this revolver. Upon entering Confederate service, he was appointed Inspector General for Braxton Bragg, commanded a division under Hindman @ Prairie Grove, led a brigade in the attack on Helena and commanded Price's Division on the lower Arkansas until he resigned in 1863. The revolver is in fine original condition showing about 60 - 70% aged military style blue on the barrel and a bit less on its cylinder. 50 - 60% original smoky style case colors cover the frame, hammer and lever. Excellent oil finished grips. The address is hand engraved, " Made for H.E.Dimick, St. Louis ". The engraving on the barrel and backstrap are unquestionably from the identical hand and tool, making this a factory inscription. The backstrap has an additional inscription probably added at the advent of hostilities by Frost's wife; " Remember Me, Lily " It is certain that Frosts affections for his wife and family directly resulted in his resignation as they were mistreated severely during the early years of the war. It is cased in an original Kidder casing with boldly stamped " Patent, Apr. 1854. " Within are an Eagle emossed Navy flask, a packet of 6 Navy caliber envelope cartridges, a Navy caliber mold and a cap tin. One of the most historical Civil War revolvers offered on the open market in years, and in very fine condition. All original and complete with a stack of historical documentation from both the Missouri State and National Archives, articles form magazines and newspapers. A solid piece of Confederate and American Histories.

mcr-1 - RARE,.44 cal COLT REVOLVING RIFLE.
One of only 101 manufactured for the US Government, this rare rifle shows its age with grey and brown patina on all metal parts. The barrel is relatively smooth and the entire frame and cylinder area has an etched appearance to the metal, probably from not cleaning off powder resiue during its period of use. The wood is really quite fine the entire length showing an almost perfect original WAT cartouche on the right side, and the full outline on the left. It is marked "Colt's Patent" over "US" on the tang, and is sub-inspected on other parts. This is only the 4th or 5th Martial Colt I have seen for sale in the last 10 years, and is about the same condition as the other encounters. Truly a rare and desireable rifle.

grp-1 - "GREAT SIOUX UPRISING GROUPING" The uprising that started the Indian Wars of the Great Plains. ULTRA-RARE WEAPONS GROUPING OF CAPTAIN PHILIP S. GARDNER OF THE 1ST & 2ND MINNESOTA CAVALRY.
This is a wonderfull grouping of material direct from family decendants of Captain Philip S. Gardner of the Minnesota Cavalry. It consists of Gardners inscribed Colt 1861 Navy revolver, his sword belt with holster, cap pouch and hangers, a military motif powder flask and a very fine condition Staff & Field Officers sword. The gun is in fine condition with about 20 - 25% blue on the barrel, traces of finish elsewhere and 95% fine cylinder scene. The grips show 85% varnish. The gun is super crisp. The leathers are all in fine condition, and the sword is a very fine Sauerbier with excellent grip, guard and scabbard to go with its near mint blade. The set is accompanied with a letter from the curator of the famed "Buffalo Bill Historical Center" of Cody, Wyoming. In this letter, Curator Frost states that the set was secured by him directly from Mr. Stanley Gardner in 1965, Mr. Gardner being the grandson of Captain Gardner. Stanley Gardner was at the time, an executive of the Husky Oil Company, and it is interesting to note that one member of the board of directors of the Historical Center was also an executive of Husky, who no doubt encouraged its placing in the museum. I don't know how long this set was displayed by the museum, but the letter seems to indicated it was definately brought in for that purpose as there is no documentation that says it was either purchased by or donated to the Museum. I can think of no more appropriate institution for the display of such historic artifacts. Captain Gardners' units, the 1st and 2nd Minnesota answered the call to defend the Western Plains States from attack by the Sioux Indians who were responsible for several attacks and the killings of hundreds of settlers in 1862. It culminated with the guilty verdicts of 303 captured Sioux Warriors who were sentenced to death. Abraham Lincoln remanded the death sentences of all but 38 of these warriors, whom Stanley Gardner claims were hung by the unit of his gradfather, Philip. A stack of historical documents from the National Archives and the original museum document is include. This is a great, historical grouping that is significant in that it was the very start of the Plains Indian Wars that brought us so many famed figures such as Custer, Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. idp-1 - HISTORICALLY INSCRIBED COLT POCKET REVOLVER OF JOSEPH WEBSTER. WEBSTER DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED AT GAINES MILL IN 1862.
This is a very good condition pocket with history. 2nd Lt. Webster was in the 27th New York Infantry. He was a student/teacher prior to hostilities and the long presentation shows he was well loved by his fellow students. Webster was wounded in the leg during battle and it probably became infected which resulted in his death. Rarely will one find such an elaborately inscribed arm. The presentation is clear on all brass parts. The gun is in light brown patina with a battlefield replaced wedge. This gun was used and shows it. It was most certainly used by someone after his death, possibly Confederate. Documentation accompanies the gun including muster sheets and Regimental History of the 27th.

stka-1 - FINE CONDITION COLT 1860 MARTIAL ARMY REVOLVER WITH EXCELLENT REPRODUCTION SHOULDER STOCK NUMBERED TO THE GUN.
This is a very fine gun showing 75% blue on the barrel and traces on the cylider with fine scene. Lots of blue on the backstrap and 80% case colors. Fine grips with original cartouche. The stock is an absolutely excellent quality repro that could fool all but the experts(and has in the past)and the numbers are nearly perfect matches to the gun. It displays perfectly as a set without paying $10,000.00 for an original stock which are extremely rare. I intend to sell these together and they are priced right, but if they don't get out of here quickly, I'll split them up as I know many of you would like a stock.

cvnv-1 - VERY FINE CONDITION COLT 1851 NAVY.
This is a very fine condition Navy with 70% blue on the barrel, 40% thin blue on the cylinder and 60% fading case-colors. The grips are near excellent with 95% varnish. The gun show minor handling marks and scratches. It is not so cared for to be a $9,000.00 gun, but its vast amount of finish make it a bargain at this price. It needs a handspring.
