1108 - CLASSIC, ROMAN NOSE FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE BY ADAM ANGSTADT.
This is a fine rifle by Angstadt with beautiful carving about the wrist and in front and back of the cheekpiece. Delicate c-scroll engraving adorns the un-pierced patchbox. The original lock has been re-converted to flint. The wood is a gorgeous tiger-striped maple. The last 10 inches of the fore-end have a v-shaped repair that is virtually imperceptible to the naked eye except upon inspection from the inside, under the barrel. This work was obviously done by a master restoration artist. It is virtually "a perfect repair". The gun is prox. 58" overall and shows classically the form of a Roman-nosed stock that is most desirable in a fine "Golden Age" Kentucky Rifle. See additional photos below !

1059 - EXTREMELY RARE, FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE MADE BY CHRISTIAN HAWKEN OF HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND AND FATHER OF THE FAMED HAWKEN BROTHERS OF ST. LOUIS, MANUFACTURERS OF THE FAMED HAWKEN PLAINS AND MOUNTAIN RIFLES.
We know that a lot of you love it when we post a nice Kentucky Rifle on the website. We wish we could find more of them, but the really good ones are few and far between. Well, here's a good one. Other than a re-converted lock, I could find but a single alteration to this fine gun. Surely, it has some nicks and dings like most do, and you may see a short sliver or two of wood missing along the top rail. The wood is also fairly well-worn, with the curl in the maple showing its aged peaks and valleys. What you won't find on this gun is any fiddling around. No replaced wood, no putty, no
enhancements and no repairs save for a small one just above the lock in front of the frizzen. It is just a great gun that saw quite a bit of use during the early to mid-1800's and then it was hung up for showin' off. Christian Hawken was one of the premier makers of Golden Age Kentucky Rifles from Maryland. His father, most of his sons and some grandchildren were also rifle makers. We know that Hawken was born in 1756 and died in 1821, so this is an early rifle but possibly one of his later creations c. 1790 - 1810. He shows up in records as a gunsmith in Hagerstown from 1784 until his death, so he probably made arms for the Revolution. The gun has a wonderful patch-box and a combination of raised and incised carved features in front of the box, behind the barrel tang and about the cheek-piece. It shows a familiar large silver inlay of a patriotic American Eagle above the cheek-piece. Fine recessed molding is carved from the front of the rear ramrod pipe to the muzzle-cap. The toe and side-plates both show fine border engraving. The gun is signed on top of the barrel. This is one of the best Kentuckies that we have offered and from one of the greatest names in American gun making. This wonderful rifle would be a great addition to any type of Firearm or Americana collection. You don't have to be a gun-lover to appreciate such a collectible. This is good stuff here.

1044 - WONDERFUL MATCHED PAIR OF OHIO MARKED FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY PISTOLS.
Straight out-of-the-woods and to our website, these guns are inspiring. For those of us that collect Kentucky Rifles, we know exactly how difficult it is to find a Kentucky Pistol. It is estimated by many that for every 100 or more rifles manufactured, only 1 or fewer pistols may have been made. To find a matching pair is next to impossible. While these guns will never be mistaken for those of Kuntz or Rupp, they are important and unique. They are not like any American made flints that I have ever seen and scream "Kentucky Pistol" with their tiger-striped maple stocks and inlayed embellishments of silver and brass. In addition, they are marked with makers name on the barrel "L. Gurley", possible city of manufacture "Boston, Ohio" on the diamond-shaped inlays on the left side of both guns and also have a large script "GYW" engraved on their butt-caps, possibly denoting the original owners name. I believe these guns to have been manufactured in Boston, Ohio, a small town in Clermont County Ohio that changed its name to Owensville in the early 1800's. Further research may prove very fruitful on this pair and I don't think it's a shot in the dark. The guns are beautiful with fine quality wood showing much curl. The locks are roller-frizzened and marked, "Ashmore". All the inlays show some type of engraving with typical s-curves, borders and crosshatching found on other Ky.'s of the period. These guns were probably made at the tail end of the Golden Age. The guns are well-made and an almost exact match and probably made for a gentleman of means as these would have been an elaborate pair of pistols for their time. Call for more details.

1044 - EXTREMELY RARE, ORIGINAL PAIR OF OHIO MADE FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY PISTOLS.
Right out-of-the-woods and on to our website, these are indeed a rare pair and of the most unusual Kentucky Pistols we have ever encountered. These guns are highly unusual in their form, style, scope of embellishment, and possibly identifiable markings. A good researcher may be able to track down both the maker, and the original owner. The guns are an almost perfectly matched pair with brass barrels marked on the top in script, "L. Gurly". They are "ALL-AMERICAN", showing curly maple stocks and early American features. Within the engraved diamond-shaped silver inlays on the left side of both guns is "Boston, Ohio". We believe this to be a town just a few clicks north of Cincinati that was re-named in the early 1800's to match that of the postmasters last name, Owensville. This information was found with a Google search but should be studied in-depth. Both guns are of finely figured tiger-striped maple and are embellished with both silver and brass engraved inlays. The locks are marked "ASHMORE" and the buttplates are classically engraved with what I presume to be the initials of the original owner, "GYW". These are a great pair of American Kentucky Pistols and it is estimated by many experts that over 100 rifles were made for every pistol.

1006 - GOLD RUSH / CIVIL WAR ERA BOWIE KNIFE BY TILLOTSON WITH PATRIOTIC AND CALIFORNIA MOTIFS.
We don't handle a lot of Bowies because good ones just don't come up that often. However, this one has all the bells and whistles that make it a premium knife. 16 1/4" overall, this knife has an outstanding condition etched blade with Patriotic Spread-winged American Eagle, Stand of Arms with Cannon, E. Pluribus Unum, Palo Alto and Califorinia Tooth Pick etched on the massive blade. The stag grip is excellent as is the original leather sheath. All markings are clear and strong. Few better when found. Excellent overall.

863 - CLASSIC, ALL ORIGINAL, FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE OF THE GOLDEN AGE.
This is nothing short of a classic, special feature "Golden Age" Kentucky Rifle in original flint. It has a beautifull engraved and formed patchbox, silver mounts and silver key escutcheons. The cheekpiece is beautifully engraved with incised carving. Wondefull tiger-striped maple stock. There is an old Fladerman's add in the patchbox describing the gun when it was priced at $7,800.00 almost 20 years ago. This is another beauty.

632 - JACOB FORDNEY LANCASTER RIFLE.
This is an absolutely untouched Kentucky that is marked on the both the lock and the barrel by J. Fordney. I bought this many years ago at the Pottstown Antique gun show and have had it on my wall ever since. In prox. 38 caliber, it would be hard to improve upon this gun which has not a single repair or enhancement to it.

628 - UNTOUCHED KENTUCKY RIFLE BY SAMUEL MCKOSH OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA.
This is a very nice, untouched, out-of-the-woods Kentucky found in 2004. It has never been cleaned or enhanced in any way with the exception of its conversion from flint to percussion during its period of use. It has a beautifull patina to its finely carved patchbox and sideplate and the tiger-striped stock is near flawless. It has a few wonderfull silver inlays, one being on the cheeckpiece in the form of an exquisite checkerboard. Truly a fine gun, it is maker marked on the barrel.

626 - WONDERFULL AMERICAN MADE RIFLEMANS KNIFE.
I bought this great knife at the Ohio Civil War show two weeks ago. It has every characteristic of a finely fashioned American Bowie, probably made by a Kentucky Rifle maker. The overall length of this knife was originally about 19". It has a 5 1/4" grip with wonderfull maple slabs on each side of the handle. The maple was unusually fashioned from a piece of tiger-striped maple with the stripes on the top and bottom. The maker then split the single piece and applied each slab to the sides of the tang before finishing. The result is a nice tiger-stripe on top and bottom and a birds-eye appearance on each slab face. It has a coffin-hilt and crossguard made of brass. The big clip-point blade measures 13 1/4", with the last 1/4 chipped off. This would make a wonderfull addition to a Kentucky rifle outfit.

620 - WONDERFULL SILVER MOUNTED, BRITISH OFFICERS PISTOL.
This is a wonderfull gun made by Brander and hallmarked in the 1760's. It is untouched and never enhanced messed with other than the polishing of the silver mounts that is perfectly acceptable on these fine guns. It was found in a fine, large home in New Jersey in a small flat trunk under shredded and treated newspaper insulation between the rafters in the attic about 30 years ago prior to the homes razing. It most certainly saw service during the Revolutionary War. This is a Queen Anne sized pistol with prox. 9" barrel. It is in fine condition and IT IS NICE !

325 - PLAINS INDIAN PIPE-TOMAHAWK. SUPERB CONDITION.
This is an absolutely stunning, hands-down original Plains Indian Pipe Hawk, and the best I've seen on the market. It is in beautifull patinaed finish and I can't express how wonderfull it is. It dates from 1850 - 1880 with a ton of character and just a glance tells the onlooker that it is 100% original and of the period, not a fixed-up or faked turn-of-the-century souvenir. This is the real deal and and we were lucky to aquire this through another dealer whose customer was upgrading to an earlier Eastern Hawk close to the 6-figure range. This Hawk is much more beautifull than the photos show.

pr__1 - BEAUTIFULL FULL STOCK NEW ENGLAND FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE MARKED "A. PRATT" ON BARREL.
This is a stunningly beautifull full-stock AND EXTREMLY WELL-MADE RIFLE. It is made in beautifull cherrywood and 58" o/a. The barrel is 42 3/4" and the lock marked "Ketland" appears to be in original flint but I cannot guarantee it. It has a perfectly original, checkered wrist and some delicate silver wire inlaid scrollwork rear of the barrel breech. There is a splinter of wood on each side of the barrel forend cap that has been re-glued, and there are no other repairs or alterations. This repair should be redone. Heavily rifled barrel of 60 - 62 caliber. This is the third of 3 almost identical rifles that I have come across, and several renowned dealers, including Neil Gutterman and the late William Guthman have expressed to me that these Pratt marked rifles are quite possibly Massachusettes Militia Rifles. Alvin Pratt of Sutton, Massachusettes is thought to be the maker of these as well as Muskets for the United States under the contract to independent makers of 1808.

The forend cap may be replaced and it has a fine re-conversion to flint. Lock is marked "A?. York, Warranted". It has two small sliver repairs on the left side of the forend where it meets the barrel, almost imperceptable. Looks to possibly be a Burks County Rifle and IT IS NICE.

rh_1 - ULTRA RARE AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND 19TH CENTURY RIFLEMANS HAWK.
I can't tell you how rare this item is to find. I just hope a buyer is not. We all know about and love a fine Pipe Tomahawk when it comes to the market. This is just a plain hawk, but from the form of the blade and haft, it presents itself as mid to late 19th century and is not an Indian product nor that of a fine craftsman. It is the type made for the pioneer and mountain man who needed a good strong hand axe and fighting piece without the frills. It can probably be dated by an expert in the field, but I'm not that person. Regardless, it is early, 100% original, and I'll back it to any expert a buyer may present it to.
