3424 - KENTUCKY PISTOLS, RARE MATCHING PAIR OF "GOLDEN AGE' PISTOLS BY A FAMOUS KENTUCKY RIFLE MAKER.
You don't have to be a student of Kentucky Rifles or have a lot of experience in the field to see that these are a very important and beautiful pair of pistols. A collector would scream with glee just to behold a single one of these guns and the pair have already caused some rapid heart rates. From what I've read and been told by a few veterans, they shouldn't even exist, yet here they are in all their glory. The maker is well-known, highly respected for his work and featured more extensively than any other rifle-maker in Kindig's book on the subject of "Golden Age" Rifles. These two guns are nearly identical, with 6 7/8” octagon to round, cannon style barrels of 50 caliber. The guns are wonderfully balanced when held in the hand. The wood is a beautiful Tiger-striped maple and each is mounted with identical side-plates and butt-caps of brass, with 3 silver pins rising from the back of butt-plates, each smaller than the next as they ascend, possibly suggesting a flash trail of ignition. There is an absolutely distinct carving to the sides and back of each barrel tang, matching in architecture and quality of execution consisting of beautiful c-scrolls that form a triangular panel behind the tang. This panel is checkered and the treatment as a whole definitively and unquestionably matches the beautiful carving on most all rifles by this maker. The locks do not have roller frizzens and their form date the guns as originating from 1790 – 1810. They are magnificent specimens made by one of the most popular makers of the “Golden Age", virtually unrivalled in their rarity and desirability and are worthy of the finest Institutional or Personal collection. The trademark carving of the barrel tangs leaves no question in the minds of those that have examined them and the consensus opinion is that these guns are the only pistols ever discovered that are definitively made by Leonard Reedy.

3422 - ROGERS AND SPENCER REVOLVER, NEAR MINT, INVESTMENT QUALITY AND MARTIALLY MARKED.
Rogers & Spencer Revolvers were ordered by the U. S. Government in 1864 and delivered from April through September of 1865. Due to the late deliveries, many of these fine guns were probably never issued and eventually sold off to arms dealers, resulting in a very rare treat for collectors today in that these can sometimes be found in excellent condition. This is one of the best I have ever come across retaining 99% blue on the barrel and frame and just a hint of dark plumbing on the cylinder which is 90+% blue. This mix of blue and plumb actually make the cylinder appear to also have 99% blue at arms length. The grips are also near mint and the gun shows just the slightest handling marks. As you can see in the photos, this gun is an absolute "screamer" and is worthy of a top-notch collection. It would not suprise me to see such a gun priced a thousand dollars higher on another website or at auction.

3419 - BUTTERFIELD CIVIL WAR REVOLVER.
Butterfield Revolvers are one of the more difficult types of Civil War Revolvers to find today. This example is in very good condition, right from the attic and in much better condition than average. The brass frame is an outstanding, deep-dark patina as are all the steel parts. The grips show the usual chips out of the front toes and it is missing its priming mechanism (as most of them seem to be). A collector will have a tough time finding a more pleasing example as this gun is completely untouched.

3412 - SPRINGFIELD ARMS COMPANY POCKET REVOLVER, HISTORICALLY INSCRIBED.
This is an untouched, "in-the-black" revolver with a fine inscription on the left frame that reads, "Z. T. Tibbatts to Chas. W. Litherbury, Dec. 1st, '63". I have found that both of these men were officers in the Union Navy during the Civil War and the gun was obviously a gift or token of respect given by Tibbatts. The arbor is a period replacement and the loading gate is missing. These parts can be found on one of these guns in lesser condition that can probably be found for a couple hundreds dollars. You can then sell the lesser gun at close to what you shelled out. The result would be a fine, historically inscribed Civil War revolver at a low cost basis and I have never seen this model with an inscription. It would be a great addition for any collector that is trying to find an inscribed specimen of each model.

3398 - MERWIN & HULBERT SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER, LARGE-FRAME, EARLY OPEN-TOP MODEL, FACTORY ENGRAVED WITH FACTORY IVORY GRIPS.
This is a very fine condition to near excellent Merwin & Hulbert with 7" barrel and standard Hopkins & Allen, Norwich address. It shows factory engraving with black enamel in the cuts and a wonderfully aged pair of factory ivories on its squared butt. In near excellent condition, the barrel shows 85% original nickel mixing with patina that is primarily on the left side where one would normally hold the pistol during break-down. The frame and cylinder show 98% nickel. The grips are wonderful as is the overall look of the gun which is accented with the black cuts. Left side of frame with engraved Mexican Eagle & Snake motif. These unusual guns have become more and more popular to collectors over the past 20 years. The unique construction of these guns (specifically the method for loading and extracting) have made them not only a curiosity, but many authorities now consider them superior to the Colt Single Action.

3397 - HENRY DERINGER MARKED "DERRINGER".
This is a good condition gun that needs a little "TLC" to make it into a very low-cost and presentable collectors item.. It is missing a standard silver barrel escutcheon to its right side and to its butt. It also shows a small wood repair to the right side of its barrel tang. These features could be easily taken care of by a clever worker. The balance of the gun and markings is very good.

3394 - COLT SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH ETCH-PANEL.
This gun is absolutely untouched and to my knowledge has never been in a collection. It is in gray patina with traces of original blue on the bottom of both the barrel and the ejector-rod housing. It shows a slight trace of bright case-color on each side of the frame. The grips are original Eagle's and well-worn showing no checkering. Sharp, crisp action. A gun that was used but not abused, you can make out about 1/2 of the lettering in the etched panel. This gun would probably be priced well above $4,000.00 from any other sales venue, be it gunshow, website or auction.

3325 - MANHATTAN POCKET REVOLVER OF CIVIL WAR VINTAGE.
This is a nice little 4" Manhattan with factory engraved frame. It is in genrally good condition showing all of its cylinder scene but needs a bit of care. Everything on this gun is sharp and crisp but it lacks a few internal parts which prevents it from functioning and it has a large chip out of the left grip panel. If you are handy or have some parts laying around, this would be a nice little project gun for somebody.

3305 - KENTUCKY PISTOL MARKED DREPPARD IN ORIGINAL PERCUSSION.
This is a big, brass barrelled percussion pistol in very fine condition. It is basically untouched but has a more recent coating of linseed oil over its wood surface that makes it appears almost unused. The tiger-maple stock is beautiful and all the edges and markings are sharp and nearly crisp as new. Pleasing patina to the barrel.

3302 - CIVIL WAR SKIN CARTRIDGES, 46/100 CALIBER FOR THE COLT DRAGOON OR 1860 ARMY REVOLVERS, EARLY WAR.
These packs are early Civil War with 1861 patent dates and are not the wood-block type. Note the 46/100 designation and earliest patent date of 1861. These sit on a small cardboard tray and each have percussion caps on the bottom edge, then wrapped with brown paper with string-pull. I have 9 of these packs in stock. They range in condition from opened and stained but good condition, to near mint and are priced from $350 - $985.00. These were used for the Colt Dragoon and to a lesser extent, the 1860 Army if you could jam one home. J & T cartridge boxes after 1861 were marked with the new patent dates of 1861 AND 1862, were in a soft pack and marked for 44/100 caliber.

3284 - VOLCANIC PISTOL. NAVY SIZED VOLCANIC PISTOL BY NEW HAVEN ARMS COMPANY WITH 8" BARREL.
This gun is in excellent condition throughout with 92 - 94% bright blue with edge-wear and small spots of scattered corrosion about the barrel. Bolt and riser show much of their original fire blue and the lever and hammer show about 50% case colors. The frame is a beautiful, deep patina and the grips are near mint. This is a great, investment quality Volcanic.

3283 - ANTIQUE GUN, METROPOLITAN NAVY REVOLVER.
This Metropolitan Navy is in generally crisp condition with very fine grips and most of its' "Battle of New Orleans" cylinder scene intact. The gun must have been in a brown patina at one time and then cleaned long ago. The action, edges and markings are all crisp and the gun is in a grey patina. It needs a little cleaning by an experienced hand and it'll be a very nice gun. These are most often considered secondary martials by collectors and are extremely popular due to their nearly identical look to the Colt Navy Revolver. We just took this back in trade with 5 or 6 other items, so this is the second time around for this one. It's priced in the "bargain" area.

3274 - ANTIQUE GUN - SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1855 PISTOL CARBINE.
This is a very nice, untouched pistol carbine dated 1856. The gun is very lightly stamped #15 on the butt, but I can't for the life of me find a number anywhere on the metal of the stock. The cartouche is present opposite the lock, but very faint. After a few phone calls (I have only had 4 of these) the light stampings of some of the aforementioned marks is not unusual. Judging by the condition, the stock and pistol have been together forever as their condition matches perfectly. The metal, wood, edges, action and all other markings are sharp and crisp. The stock fits with a wobble to the pistol due to wear of both the latch and the mounts in the gun-butt, also not unusual. There is almost no corrosion on this set. They are in great condition with just a very light brown haze to the metal surfaces and just a bit of roughness about the nipple. This is a great, untouched set and if it doesn't sell, I'm keeping it to display with my shoulder-stocked Colts.

3267 - ALLEN AND WHEELOCK REVOLVER - CIVIL WAR ARMY REVOLVER.
One of the highest quality and well-made guns manufactured during the Civil War Era, this gun was discontinued after about 250 were made due to a patent infringement on the Smith & Wesson systems. Being of a solid frame and precise machining, this gun put all others to shame in terms of its quality. This example is hands-down one of the best condition of its type and is basically in unfired condition, just some flaking to its blueing. All else is near mint. Please excuse the date on the photos as I am experimenting with a new camera.

3265 - CIVIL WAR REVOLVER - MOORE SINGLE-ACTION BELT REVOLVER, HISTORICALLY INSCRIBED TO CAPTAIN CHARLES E, WHITNEY, 40TH MASS.
There's a first time for everything. Take a look at the shoulders of the back-strap on this little revolver, it is dated on the lugs! I've never seen that feature on any pistol in 30 years of collecting. I know the photos are a bit dark, but this gun is extremely sharp and crisp to include all markings, edges and action. The barrel and cylinder are in a smooth, dark-brown patina with generous blue on the bottom of the barrel. The factory engraved frame retains 80% original dark silver plate and the grips are excellent with 90%+ original varnish. The back-strap inscription reads, "ADJ. Cha's. E. Whitney / 40th Mass. Vols. / From Friends". Whitney mustered in as a Corporal in August of 1862 and served throught the war. The 40th saw action at Fort Wagner, Olustee, Drewry's Bluff (where Whitney was wounded), Bermuda Hundred, Cold harbor, and Petersburg among other places. This is a nice little gun with a great inscription and history to a man who advanced to the rank of Captain and was wounded at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia in 1864.

This gun is in good condition with very good marking and action. The gun is in heavy brown patina, has a few broken nipples and a cracked right-hand grip panel that needs to be re-glued and a sliver filled in. A little TLC and you'd have a very good Savage in the $1400 - 1500 range.

3192 - REMINGTON-RIDER MAGAZINE PISTOL.
I almost never make this statement when it comes to an antique gun, "Flat Mint". But this gun is so new, it probably retains fingerprints of a Remington workman from the 1870's. If you've never held a mint gun, I can tell you that it's quite thrilling. It doesn't get any better than this. It's a fiery little thing that looks so much like jewelry, you'd think your wife would want one. Mine didn't,,,, therefore it's priced appropriately.

3186 - FRENCH DOUBLE FLINTLOCK PISTOL WITH DOUBLE BARRELS AND LOCKS.
If you like early flinters, this is a truly rare and very lovely gun. It has brass barrels and locks and really beautiful architecture. It shows raised-carving to the wood and delicate engraving to the brass trim, especially on the triggerguard and rear ramrod pipe. It has St. Etienne proofs on the bottom of the barrels and an "S*" which I believe is probably the cryptic mark of its French manufacturer. This gun dates 1730 - 1780. A really nice and unusual piece with flashy, all-brass rigging.

3166 - BRITISH FLINTLOCK PISTOL WITH SPRING LOADED SWORD BAYONET.
If you like early guns and especially flintlocks, this is a very rare and hard to find gun. The lock is stamped W. Shaw and it is a huge pistol with a .69 caliber bore and 8 & 1/2" bayonet. We have all seen the iron and brass barrelled blunderbus coach rifles or carbines with the spring-loaded bayonets, but you'll rarely see a pistol of this size with this feature. It's big and imposing looking, and offered the person weilding it an additional advantage should his first shot fail to find its mark. The gun appears to be in untouched original condition.

2096 - CIVIL WAR SMITH & WESSON REVOLVER, LOUIS D. NIMSCHKE ENGRAVED, NUMBER 2 SMITH & WESSON REVOLVER.
This is an absolutely gorgeous little #2 Smith & Wesson Revolver. This is not the usual New York engraved gun. It is unquestionably engraved by the hand of L. D. Nimschke, regarded by many experts as the finest firearms engraver of the 19th century. It shows wonderful execution of his work over the entire gun. The scrolling is tight and flourished in tasteful scroll motifs about the frame, barrel and the cylinder, which is often left plain except for special order presentations. The grips are mother-of-pearl and original to the gun showing age but no abuse. The metal is sharp and crisp as is the engraving, and the gun shows traces of original silver plating scattered in protected areas. This gun was obviously a high-quality, presentation grade gun for a high ranking Civil War Officer or some other entity of importance. I have seen lesser guns with the more common NY engraving bring the same or more than this gun is priced. This gun is wonderful.
