1206 - CASED AND SILVER-PLATED BENTLEY REVOLVER.
I do not now, nor have I ever claimed to have expertise in the world of very fine and beautiful British handguns. However, I know what I like and generally can recognize quality when I see it in front of me. This gun is in roughly 38 center-fire and is in near mint original condition, probably unfired.

1149 - ANTIQUE GUN. 36 Caliber, ALLEN'S PATENT DOUBLE-ACTION BAR HAMMER PISTOL WITH SOUTHERN AGENTS MARK.
This is a great little gun in excellent condition. It shows most all of its original barrel polishing and traces of fire-blue on the protected areas of its barrel. The action, grips, and markings are excellent and this is one of the best I have ever encountered. The agent marking of "Spratley, Norfolk, Va." makes it even more special.

1122 - EARLY COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER.
This is another very good, never tampered with gun. It is in an untouched, light brown patina with generous traces of its original nickle plate and has never been abused. You can tell this by blowing up the photos a bit and looking at the end of the muzzle, front of the cylinder, etc. It is still crispy. It shows what I think are whispers of an original etched panel on the left side of the barrel, but many will say I'm blind. The gun is sharp and crisp with even, but light wear. The address is faint but all other markings are clear, no dings and dents and full grips with 25% varnish. The hammer is a replacement from 1890's period and the trigger and stop screws are good, aged replacements. 52XXX range. It's really nice.

1120 - CIVIL WAR PISTOL, PERRY BREECH-LOADING SINGLE SHOT PISTOL IN .52 caliber.
My wife can't believe I put this on my website, but she's pretty sharp. She knows why a Confederate sword is often worth fathoms more in dollars and history than a beauty of a Union piece. The crude manufacture, heavy use and colorful aging are endearing to an astute Confederate collector. I explained how the same holds true for relics, and this one is extremely rare. I know the buyer might be rarer than the gun, but couldn't pass up one that is so hard to find to begin with. She understands, but won't let me keep it in the house, so its in the garage until a buyer steps forward.

1116 - REMINGTON MODEL 1875 SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER.
This is a great gun that has suffered from a bad drop. That is probably why it remains in nearly pristine condition. The good part of this gun is that it retains 98% original nickle and near mint grips. It shows almost no use or carry. The bad part doesn't paint an equally pretty picture. The gun has obviously been dropped and a poor attempt has been made to rectify the damage. First off, the barrel has been shortened and the front sight set back to a proper position. I would assume that the muzzle was heavily dented and had to be reduced to even attempt to salvage the gun to usable. The trigger guard had also been crushed and cracked and then pulled out to facilitate its use. If one has the skill to work on this gun, it would be a wonderful collector piece. The sight work could be improved upon and the trigger guard needs to be replaced or brought back to form. The only other flaw is that the grip-straps have been bent back slightly. A few good raps with a leather mallet could bring it back to perfection.

1114 - CIVIL WAR REVOLVER, REMINGTON-BEALS NAVY REVOLVER WITH ITS ORIGINAL HOLSTER.
This is an untouched rig that came to us from an inquiry to our website. As most of you know, the Beals Navy is relatively hard to come by in decent condition. This one is untouched and has never been on the market as far as I know. It's still dusty and dirty and needs a good cleaning and then oiling. It is all complete with a replaced lever latch and arbor that was on it when I got it, the owner obviously making an attempt to get the gun serviceable prior to sale. Neither are very noticeably different from an original. The gun is sharp and crisp and in a medium brown to gray patina. The hammer spur is broken off and I have it here somewhere, taped to a piece of paper. Finding it within my labyrinth of paperwork, telephones and half eaten bowls of cocoa-puffs will be next to impossible, so don't count on it being part of the deal. If I run across it someday, I can assure you I'll never remember what it was for. The holster is very nice with a bit of re-stitching. It has a very neat replacement plug that was hand-made and stitched to its bottom, definitely period work, very well done and it gives the rig a very cool look. With its fine grips, this is a good set and the gun alone is worth the price of ownership. The holster is a bonus.

This is a great gun and as we know, popular among Union Offers as evidenced by the high number that are found inscribed. This is a very nice pair of pistols marked on the top barrel flats, "E. Midnight". It has characteristics of European makers as well as American. We found an E. 1060 - COLT, 2ND MODEL DRAGOON, MARTIALLY MARKED.
Although this gun has only the slightest trace of blue on the barrel and no other original finish, it is in excellent condition otherwise. All metal parts are nearly sharp as new with a near perfect cylinder scene, near mint grips with perfect cartouches and near perfect markings. They don't come much better and with a darker patina, this gun would have commanded a price in the 20's.

1044 - WONDERFUL MATCHED PAIR OF OHIO MARKED FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY PISTOLS.
Straight out-of-the-woods and to our website, these guns are inspiring. For those of us that collect Kentucky Rifles, we know exactly how difficult it is to find a Kentucky Pistol. It is estimated by many that for every 100 or more rifles manufactured, only 1 or fewer pistols may have been made. To find a matching pair is next to impossible. While these guns will never be mistaken for those of Kuntz or Rupp, they are important and unique. They are not like any American made flints that I have ever seen and scream "Kentucky Pistol" with their tiger-striped maple stocks and inlayed embellishments of silver and brass. In addition, they are marked with makers name on the barrel "L. Gurley", possible city of manufacture "Boston, Ohio" on the diamond-shaped inlays on the left side of both guns and also have a large script "GYW" engraved on their butt-caps, possibly denoting the original owners name. I believe these guns to have been manufactured in Boston, Ohio, a small town in Clermont County Ohio that changed its name to Owensville in the early 1800's. Further research may prove very fruitful on this pair and I don't think it's a shot in the dark. The guns are beautiful with fine quality wood showing much curl. The locks are roller-frizzened and marked, "Ashmore". All the inlays show some type of engraving with typical s-curves, borders and crosshatching found on other Ky.'s of the period. These guns were probably made at the tail end of the Golden Age. The guns are well-made and an almost exact match and probably made for a gentleman of means as these would have been an elaborate pair of pistols for their time. Call for more details.

1044 - EXTREMELY RARE, ORIGINAL PAIR OF OHIO MADE FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY PISTOLS.
Right out-of-the-woods and on to our website, these are indeed a rare pair and of the most unusual Kentucky Pistols we have ever encountered. These guns are highly unusual in their form, style, scope of embellishment, and possibly identifiable markings. A good researcher may be able to track down both the maker, and the original owner. The guns are an almost perfectly matched pair with brass barrels marked on the top in script, "L. Gurly". They are "ALL-AMERICAN", showing curly maple stocks and early American features. Within the engraved diamond-shaped silver inlays on the left side of both guns is "Boston, Ohio". We believe this to be a town just a few clicks north of Cincinati that was re-named in the early 1800's to match that of the postmasters last name, Owensville. This information was found with a Google search but should be studied in-depth. Both guns are of finely figured tiger-striped maple and are embellished with both silver and brass engraved inlays. The locks are marked "ASHMORE" and the buttplates are classically engraved with what I presume to be the initials of the original owner, "GYW". These are a great pair of American Kentucky Pistols and it is estimated by many experts that over 100 rifles were made for every pistol.

1008 - COLT, MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER, FACTORY FACTORY ENGRAVED WITH FACTORY CARVED IVORY GRIPS, HISTORICALLY INSCRIBED TO CONFEDERATE COLONEL MICHAEL BULGER OF THE 47TH ALABAMA INFANTRY.
This Navy Revolver is one of the better items that we have been fortunate enough to enjoy, own and market. It is in fine condition. Sharp and crisp in every respect and worthy of an outstanding collection of Civil War Artifacts of the highest quality and historical significance.
HISTORY; Commissioned a Captain in Company A of the 47th Alabama Infantry in March 1862. His regiment's baptism of fire came at the battle of Cedar Mountain on August 9, 1862. While in command of the 47th during this clash, he received two severe wounds that necessitated a leave of absence to restore his health, and it was during this convalesce that he was elected to represent his district in the Alabama State Senate. He returned to his duties at the grade of Lieutenant Colonel, and was present with the regiment at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Confederate efforts to seize the high ground known as "Little Round Top" occurred July 2, 1863, and the elder Bulger did not lack courage during this desperate hour – the old man climbed atop a boulder and "waved his sword at the Federals while urging his Alabamians" onward. This presentation of gallantry came with a severe cost however. By standing tall on the boulder, he offered a grand target and eventually, a Union marksman fired a round that found its mark. Hit in the lung, Bulger withdrew down the hill to the safety of another boulder. There, amidst the ongoing battle, he sat himself down to await his fate, and with blood freely flowing from his mouth and nostrils, began to suffer the effects of his wound. He was a dying man. With the ultimate repulse of the Confederate forces, the wounded Bulger was left behind and was reported to have been killed while "fighting most nobly". Colonel James Clay Rice of the 44th New York Infantry soon appeared and the Confederate officer officially surrendered his sword. Colonel Rice personally instructed his men to transfer Bulger to the attention of a Federal surgeon. Later, Bulger let it be known "that the compassion shown by Rice saved his life." Conveyed to Johnson's Island near Sandusky, Ohio as a prisoner, his war was effectively over. He was exchanged in March 1864. During his tenure as a prisoner-of-war, he was promoted Colonel. The war concluded with him as a member of the Invalid Corps, and upon returning to his adoptive state of Alabama, he farmed and continued his involvement in politics.

997 - JOHN WALCH TEN SHOT DOUBLE-HAMMER POCKET REVOLVER.
If I had been a Civil War Cavalry Trooper, I'd have had 2 of these in 36 caliber in my pommel-holsters, one in my belt and others stashed about my person. With 4 of these in 36 caliber, a soldier would have close to 50 shots before he ran empty. What some people fail to note about these pocket sized guns is that they were made by New Haven Arms along-side the famed Henry Rifle. Each draw of the hammers (2-hammers) allowed for pulling of the trigger twice, firing 2 separate shots. And they worked! One company of the 9th Michigan armed themselves with these pockets. This one is in very good condition with strong action, edges, and markings. The left grip panel is cracked. A great little gun in smooth light brown/gray patina.

923 - EXQUISITE, UNFIRED, MUSEUM QUALITY PEPPERBOX. ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN AND IT IS IDENTIFIED.
This little beauty is in near mint condition as is its original casing and all accessories. It is the best I have ever seen and is ID'd in Indian Ink on the bottom of the case. It's original owner, C. H. Smith of Cooperstown, New York saw service with Battery "M" of the 3rd New York Light Artillery. It joined the regiment February 22, 1862, and served in North Carolina, and the 18th Corps, from March, 1862; at and near Fort Monroe, Va., from October, 1863; in Heckman's Division, 18th Corps, from January, 1864; in the 1st Division, 18th Corps, from March,
1864; in the 3d Division, 18th Corps, Army of the James, from May, 1864; in the Artillery Brigade, 18th Corps, from June, 1864, and in that of the 24th Corps from December, 1864.
Commanded by Capt. John H. Howell, it was mustered out at Richmond, Va., June 26, 1865. Needless to say, Smith didn't take his fine little Pepperbox with him.

920 - SIMPLY OUTSTANDING COLT "ETCHED-PANEL" SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER.
This is simply the best "Etched-Panel" S/A I have seen for under $25,000.00. It is another item recently found at the Gettysburg Civil War Show last week, and thankfully they now allow items made up to 1898 or I would never have seen it. I was also able to trade into this gun with a good dealer-friend from NYC, so I can pass the savings on to its future owner. This great Single Action shows prox. 70% original blue and case-colors on the cylinder and frame, respectively and generous traces on its barrel. The ejector-rod housing shows most of its blue and the screws are near perfect showing lots of finish. The grips are near mint and most of the blue remains in the bore and chambers!!! It also has the best, deepest, 100% original etched panel that I have ever seen. It's in the 52XXX range and would be hard to duplicated at my price.

916 - CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE PALMETTO ARMORY PISTOL.
This gun came directly from the Londeree family of Buckingham County, Virginia. I have the entire history on this gun and am waiting for a notarized letter from the kind woman who owned it. It belonged to Joseph Londeree (her great-great-grandfather) who was in Branders Company of Letchers Light Artillery. He was killed by a 24 pound shell bursting in front of a wagon he was driving in late 1862. I have copies of all the family's marriage certificates and genealogy charts from her aunt who received the Cross of Military Service from The United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1994 for her service in the US Military (WWII)and being a direct descendant of a Confederate Veteran. The provenance on this gun is A-1, rock solid.
*****!!!! AT 3:12PM ON FEBRUARY 16, 2009 I SENT OUT MY EMAIL NEWSLETTER TO ALL SUBSCRIBERS. WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF RECEIVING MY EMAIL, THE GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GRANDSON OF JOSEPH LONDEREE CALLED TO PURCHASE THIS PISTOL. AMAZINGLY, HE IS ONE OF MY GOOD FRIENDS AND A FRIEND AND FELLOW COLLECTOR OF US ALL, RUSTY HICKS OF VIRGINIA. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!!!!****

906 - CIVIL WAR ERA ENGRAVED ADAMS PATENT REVOLVER WITH FACTORY IVORIES AND UN-RESEARCHED DOCUMENTED HISTORY TO COLONEL JOHN T. WILDER OF INDIANA, COMMANDER OF THE FAMED "IRON BRIGADE".
This item is currently being researched to authenticate the provenance of its past presentation and ownership. We ask that anyone familiar with this piece or the backround associated with the information provided on the brass plaque to contact us to help with the proper identification of this artifact. It was supposedly the former property of Margaret Wilder Wieser who's husband and direct descendant of John T. Wilder, died in 1972. This gun was reported (on the plaque) as having been presented to Colonel John T. Wilder by the "Friends and Citizens of Greensburg, Indiana". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
